Why We Can Trust the Bible — Monday

This year you are going to learn what Christians believe — the great truths of the Bible — starting with a truly important question for everyone: can we trust the Bible? Paul told his young friend Timothy, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." The word "inspiration" here means "God-breathed." That gives us a wonderful picture. Just as spoken words come out on your breath when you speak, the Bible came out from God Himself. It is God's own Word! God used real human writers — like Moses, David, and Paul — but He guided them by His Spirit so that what they wrote is exactly what He wanted to say. That is why we can trust the Bible completely. This teaches us that the Bible is not just a book of good ideas or human opinions. It is God speaking to us, and God never lies or makes mistakes. So when the Bible tells us something, we can believe it fully. And Paul says Scripture is "profitable" — useful — to teach us what is true, to correct us when we are wrong, and to train us to live right. This year, as we study what Christians believe, remember that our answers all come from God's trustworthy Word. Thank God today for His true and living Word.

Talk about:

  • Where did the Bible come from? (From God!)
  • Is it useful? (Yes — to teach and train us!)

Remember: "All Scripture is given by God" — hold an open book, then point up to god.

Pray: God, thank You for giving us Your true Word.
