Open: God, teach me to live wisely today.
Read: Read Proverbs 1:7 aloud — 'The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.'
This year you are going to learn about wisdom — how to live God's way in the world. The very first thing that the book of Proverbs teaches is where wisdom begins: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge." Now, the "fear of the Lord" does not mean being scared of God, as if He were mean or frightening. It means honouring and respecting God so deeply that we take Him seriously, listen to His Word, and want to obey Him. Think of it this way: God is the King of the whole universe, the wisest and greatest of all. When we truly honour Him like that, we gladly listen and do what He says. That is where real wisdom starts. A person who ignores God cannot be truly wise, no matter how clever they are, because they have left out the most important thing of all. So wisdom does not begin with being smart — it begins with truly honouring God. Ask God today to help you honour Him and begin every choice with Him.
Talk about:
- Where does wisdom start? (Fearing the Lord!)
- What does that mean? (Honouring and obeying God!)
Remember: "The fear of the Lord begins wisdom" — bow your head, then tap your temple for wisdom.
Pray: God, help me honour You and start every choice with You.
