Open: Adoration — God, You are great and Your whole story is good. I praise You.
Read: Read Genesis 1:1 and skim Genesis 1 — 'In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.'
This year we will carefully travel together through the Bible's whole wonderful and true story. It all begins with the very first verse: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Notice how the story starts — not with people, not with the world, but with God. Before anything else existed, God was already there. God has no beginning; He has always been. And when He decided to make the universe, He did not need any materials to work with, the way we need wood to build or paint to make a picture. God simply spoke, and out of nothing He created light, sky, land, seas, stars, plants, animals — everything! This teaches us something wonderful about God: His power is beyond our imagination, and everything that exists belongs to Him because He made it. It also means the whole Bible, and your whole life, is really about God first. He is the main character of the story and the King over all He has made. As we begin this journey, praise God as the great Creator who made everything from nothing.
Talk about:
- How does the story start? (With God creating!)
- Did He need anything to make it? (No!)
Remember: "In the beginning God created" — sweep your arms wide to show the whole creation.
Pray: God, You made everything. I praise You as the great Creator.
